HOPE Food Shelf help needed!

A couple of people are needed who can volunteer a few hours a week on a regular basis to work in the Food Shelf. Potential volunteers for this must be physically fit, able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis, and must be able and willing to carefully follow detailed instructions. Bristol Elementary After School Club Seeking Volunteers

Bristol Elementary School is offering a wonderful enrichment program for its students and they are looking for folks to join them for some after school fun! They are seeking tutors, study mentors, reading buddies and people who might like to facilitate a workshop of their own with a group of students for six to eight weeks. Some examples of workshops their students are interested in include:

· science experiments/discoveries
· music and spoken/sung voice
· knitting, sewing, fabric arts, and handicrafts
· dance or drama
· computers
· foreign languages
· community service
· literature and book discussion

Senior Helpers needed!

Champlain Valley Agency on Aging (CVAA) is seeking volunteers to provide help to several local senior citizens. A woman in Middlebury would welcome someone as a friendly visitor and a lovely couple in Cornwall is hoping someone might be able to shovel snow as needed this winter. Website Designer

The Turningpoint Center of Addison County is seeking a volunteer to help design a website for the agency. The Center serves people who are concerned with issues pertaining mainly to the recovery from alcohol and drug abuse. Volunteer Drivers

The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking Volunteer Drivers to transport their clients to various locations, including doctors appointments, grocery stores and monthly support groups in Middlebury, Bristol, New Haven, Brandon and Salisbury. VARS Seeks Fundraiser

The Vergennes Area Rescue Squad is seeking a volunteer to serve on their Building Initiative Committee. The ideal person would have experience with capital campaigns or building project promotion. Hospice Volunteer Services Seeks Drivers

Volunteer drivers are needed to transport meals from the Brandon area to the Hospice Volunteer Services main office in Middlebury. The Dinners With Love concept was created by a local caterer who partners with Brandon restaurants to provide delicious home-cooked meals for patients and their families who are being cared for by Hospice Volunteers. Meals need to be picked up from Cattails, Café Provence or Plan-it Sheri Catering between the hours of 2-4 p.m. If you are interested in helping out, please call 388-7044.


Help Families in Transition

Middlebury Community Care Coalition is currently seeking volunteers for the Community at Charter House located on North Pleasant Street. The site offers safe, warm accommodations for families and individuals in need throughout the winter months. Volunteers are needed to serve as daytime or overnight hosts, completing 4-hour shifts, in pairs, at times of their choosing. Volunteer training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, October 26th at 9:00 a.m. and Saturday, October 30th at 10:00 a.m. Please call 388-7044 for more information.


Seeking Meals On Wheels Drivers for Bristol Route
Do you have an hour to donate once or twice per month? If so, please consider becoming a Meals On Wheels volunteer in Bristol. Our drivers deliver warm smiles and hot meals to their elderly neighbors who are no longer able to cook for themselves. Teams are welcome too! Perhaps your business would like to rotate employees through once per month? Or maybe you’d like to spend time with your best friend or young child? You’re welcome to deliver the meals together! Basic Reading Instructors
Vermont Adult Learning, the state’s leading nonprofit provider of literacy and adult education services, is looking for experienced reading teachers who can teach basic reading to adults. The ideal volunteer would have training in the Wilson Reading System or Orton Gillingham method. Currently we have students in need of teachers in Vergennes and Middlebury. Seeking Volunteer Drivers!!
The Addison County Farm Worker Coalition is setting up a transportation network called the Amistad (friendship) Program to provide much needed transportation assistance to migrant workers and their families working on our local dairy farms. We need people who could drive folks to medical appointments, grocery shopping, religious services and social gatherings. Some knowledge of Spanish is helpful, but not necessary. Seeking Mitten Knitters!

In honor of last week’s invigorating snow storm, the Warm Hearts/Warm Hands program is seeking volunteers who love to knit! The Vermont Yarn Company is generously sponsoring this collaboration by supplying the pattern, donating the yarn and providing the felting expertise. We are still looking for donations of knitting yarn and fleece. Now we need to clarify…After placing our last ad, we received several offers of beautiful fluffy sheep skins, but our ladies are knitters…not shearers, carders or spinners! HOME ENERGY VISIT Volunteers Needed

Middlebury is partnering with Efficiency Vermont to bring a new energy-saving program to local households. Its Vermont Community Energy Mobilization (VCEM) program is a volunteer program designed to help residents save money and energy in their homes. Attend their free volunteer training to learn how to conduct home energy visits to help your neighbors and friends save energy.

The Middlebury Community Lunch and Supper Programs are seeking volunteers to help out during the next several months. Lunches are served at the Charter House and Suppers at the Congregational Church.
